literature as a whole. The historical and factual analysis is subservient to the systematic argument. At the end of each chapter the respective aims of the argument will be plainly stated. But these results will be misunderstood if they are taken as theses in their own right and not evaluated relative to the argument on which they rest. A specific interpretation of the relationship of theology to philosophy fully and unmistakably informs this presentation of Christian doctrine. This is hardly surprising
